Beiges and neutrals have been popular for the last few seasons – and even accent colors have stayed muted – but designers are starting to buzz that brighter colors are becoming more popular. While the neutral look hasn’t been totally dethroned, there are some changes on the way.
Vibrant colors are making a comeback
While they’re mostly seen in accent positions, vibrant colors are indeed making a comeback. With bright paints, metals, and textiles being added to everything from bathroom fixtures to couch pillows to accent walls and draperies, color-loving designers are excited to see these changes.
It’s all about mixing and matching
According to some designers, there isn’t a particular color or group of colors reigning in popularity this year. Instead, modern decorating trends mix classic blacks, whites, and grays with soft pins, light purples, and spring-inspired yellows.
Other designers are excited about dramatic colors
Some designers are getting pumped about deep oranges, bright reds, and sparkling bronzes. Once again, these can be mixed and matched with neutral colors to act as accents. This allows homeowners to make a few updates to change their décor – without having to start from scratch.
Window coverings are getting more adventurous too
Designers are also getting more adventurous with their window coverings. Today we’re seeing beautiful colors, metal accents, and bold, solid colors layered with light and breezy sheers. Hardware is also getting a makeover as designers are considering it more an important part of the design process than an afterthought.
Even staging homes is changing
An expert in home staging says that the old advice to make homes look as neutral as possible is no longer universally accepted. Instead, homeowners are turning toward color, which makes a bolder, more personalized statement to potential buyers. Instead of making a home a place that anyone can picture themselves in, the idea is to create bolder rooms that will stand out to buyers – and that they’ll remember even when they’re touring a dozen or more homes.
Trends are always changing
While the savvy homeowner may look to trends to choose colors or fabrics for bedding, curtains, and other accessories, it’s important to remember the cardinal rule: all that really matters is what you like. Trends will come and go but if you buy pieces you love you’ll love them forever.
