5 Things to Consider When Choosing Drapes

November 11, 2015 By hpdadmin Leave a Comment

Finding the perfect draperies for your home can be a challenge. You want affordable, high quality drapes, and you want something that will work with your current design and décor. Shop the many options at Half Price Drapes or read on to discover five things you can consider to find the right options for your home.

    1. The architecture of your home

If your home was built in a certain historical period then you’ll want to take this into consideration when choosing drapery. For example, a home with colonial style windows won’t likely look great with plantation shutters as they contain too many vertical and horizontal lines. You’ll also consider what your window treatments will look like from outside and whether or not they’ll clash with your bricks, siding, etc.

    2. The existing colors and décor

Consider if you plan to change your décor in the near future. If not, then you’ll need to make sure your draperies match your current color and style schemes. A general rule of thumb is to avoid white curtains in high traffic areas, as they can show dirt more readily and can be harder to clean than patterned options.

    3. Your privacy needs

If your windows overlook a parking lot, or you have close neighbors you need privacy form, then you’ll likely want blackout curtains, velvet draperies, or other thick, heavy options that offer maximum privacy. On the other hand, if your windows open only to your private yard, you may choose sheer linens that let in the maximum amount of light.

    4. Sunblocking

In some rooms you may not worry about the sun. In others, the sun beating in all day long can fade furniture and carpets quickly. Consider the glare in rooms with televisions and whether you need shades or curtains to block it. Keep in mind your needs for natural sunlight in rooms like your kitchen. In some cases, the best answer may be to have dual curtains – a sheer one for times of the day you want to let sunlight in and a heavier curtain when you want to block it.

    5. Your budget

Once you know what you’re looking for, you’ll need to find options that fit within your budget. Half Price Drapes offers all the quality you want, the selection you need, and the quality you demand. Browse our hundreds of options to find the perfect window coverings for your needs.
