It’s that time of year again: spring cleaning time. This is the perfect opportunity to air out your home, throw the windows open, and get the dirt and grime from winter out of your home. Here are a few tips to help you get your house spic and span in no time.
Clearing out your winter clothes
Once it starts warming up there’s no reason to keep your winter clothes in your bedroom, cluttering up the space. Store them in a clean, cool, dark place that stays dry – avoid basements and other damp places. You’ll want to make sure you thoroughly clean every item before you pack it away until fall.
Keep an eye on your clutter
When most people think of spring cleaning they think only of the actual cleaning aspect but clearing out the clutter is an important part too. Start with one area at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed. Throw away things you won’t be using and that you don’t think are worthy of being donated to a local charity. You can also collect items and have a garage sale.
How to get your windows clean and fresh
Take a look at your window treatments and see if they need to be cleaned. They may just require a spot cleaning or you may want to use your upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to give them a more thorough cleaning. Remember that some draperies, such as velvet curtains, may require dry cleaning. Then wash down your windowsill and don’t forget to clean or replace your window hardware.
Give your walls a once over
Your walls, baseboards, woodwork, and cabinets could also use a wipe down. Just grab a sponge and the dish detergent you use to wash dishes by hand. Then wipe the surface down in sections. Make sure you thoroughly dry any wood you wipe down to prevent damage.
Keeping your appliances clean
Give your appliances a once over, including your fridge, oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and your HVAC unit. You’re looking to make sure they’re clean and functioning correctly. If you see any issues, check out your owner’s manual or look online for how to handle it.
Half Price Drapes also encourages you to consider updating your window treatments before summer gets here. It’s always a good time to make your home lighter, airier, and more put together.
