Sherwin-Williams, the trend-setting paint company, names a Color of the Year every year. Last year, you may remember, it was alabaster white. They recently announced their 2017 Color of the Year and it’s quite interesting indeed.
Drum roll: Color of the Year for 2017
Are you ready? Well, their Color of the Year for 2017 is Poised Taupe. Having trouble picturing it? Imagine a mix of brown and gray. It isn’t a hot color, but it’s not a cold color either. It’s neither dark nor light. It’s a middle-zone color all the way.
Why’d they choose this color?
According to a spokesperson from the company, they chose this color because they believe it’s a new, modern take on a timeless, classic hue. They say it signals a new direction for the always-popular neutrals. It brings in warm tones as well as cool tones, and it’s very versatile. They believe that it perfectly strikes the balance between being subtle and being bold.
Are neutrals shifting?
Their spokesperson says that for more than five years, gray has been a popular color. At Half Price Drapes, we’ve seen plenty of sales of gray curtains but we also see plenty of bright, bold, patterned curtains too. Sherwin-Williams says that anyone who wants to get ahead of the curve and embrace a trend before it becomes super popular should consider decorating with Poised Taupe.
What we like about the color
At Half Price Drapes, we respect that there are a million and one preferences out in the world, which is why we strive to offer so many different options. However, we do think this is an interesting choice for Color of the Year. It’s not bright, it’s not in-your-face, but it can make a statement. It’s a lovely color that we hope people will embrace, though we love virtually any and all color options.
Another thing we love about this color is how versatile it is. You could paint your walls Poised Taupe and then decorate with a wide variety of other colors. For example, this color would look great with patterned curtains, a simple, solid red couch, and a rug that brings all the colors together. Likewise, it would look great with a simple palette that includes natural wood grain and modern lines. For more information on all your curtain options, let Half Price Drapes show you the way.
