You do want your home to look put together but you don’t want it to match too much. This can be an especially difficult balance to strike in the living room. That’s why we’ve come up with some unique ways to tie your living room together. They allow you to utilize different fabrics, patterns, and colors while still ensuring it has an overall cohesive feel.
Don’t try clean things that don’t need to be dry cleaned
Many people assume that if a piece of clothing has a tag that says “dry clean” anywhere on it, that it must be dry cleaned. The truth is that there’s a big difference between a tag that says “dry clean” and a tag that says “dry clean only.” One is a suggestion and one is a requirement. Unless your tag says “dry clean only” you can likely wash it on the gentle cycle.
Give a home-cleaning kit a shot
If your clothing or linens just need a slight refresh, or if they’re only lightly stained, then an in-home cleaning start kit may be your best bet. They generally cost less than $10 to get started and per item will end up about 80% cheaper than sending your items off to the dry cleaner.
Invest in better hangers
You may be shocked to learn this, but using wooden or flocked hangers can actually reduce the frequency with which you need to visit the dry cleaner. How? Because wire hangers can get your garments out of shape. To keep them in their natural shape, stick with high quality hangers.
Don’t get dressed until you’re ready to go
One of the simplest ways you can save money on dry cleaning bills is to not soil your clothing and what’s the best way to do that? To avoid getting dressed until after you’ve put on your makeup, applied your perfume, eaten breakfast, etc. Anything you have to do that could stain your clothing should be done before you put on your expensive dry-clean-only clothes.
Replace your curtains
Replacing your curtains may not seem like a great way to save money but if you have older curtains that must be dry cleaned then it may benefit you in the long-run to invest in some curtains that can be spot cleaned at home. Sheers are a great choice, as are cotton curtains.
Ask for a price break
Not all dry cleaners have cut and dry prices. You may be able to get a frequent customer discount or get a credit for returning hangers. It never hurts to ask and it could save you a significant amount of cash in the long run!
