Three Simple Tips for Choosing the Right Drapes

December 19, 2015 By hpdadmin Leave a Comment

Nothing makes a room feel quite as unfinished as a bare window. Whether you’re decorating a brand new home or giving your older home a makeover, choosing the right drapes or curtains is an essential part of the process. Consider these three super simple tips to help you choose the perfect treatments for your home.

Keep the purpose of your space in mind

Too often homeowners believe that window coverings should match throughout their home. The reality is that different rooms have different purposes, and as a result they should have different draperies. For example, you may want to soften sound in a bedroom. If that’s the case, velvet draperies or another heavy drapery are likely the best choice. On the other hand, your media room’s primary need is likely reducing sunlight that causes glare. In that case you’d consider blackout shades.

Make sure you’re giving equal weight to fashion and function

Some homeowners think only of how they want their windows to look, while others think only of what function they need their drapes  to serve. Neither option is optimal. Instead, focus on meeting both needs. Consider whether or not the window will be opened, whether you’ll use it as a natural source of light, or if the window’s function is to provide an incredible view. Depending on your answers to these questions, honeycomb shades, linen draperies, or a wide range of other window covering options may be the right choice.

    Have your privacy covered

In some rooms, privacy is key. For example, bathrooms and bedrooms are places you don’t want prying eyes getting in! When privacy is key to your comfort, make sure you’re choosing window treatments that can perform double duty. They should both beautify your space and also protect your privacy. A great option in bedroom are draperies with sun-blocking linings – especially for shift workers who sleep at unusual hours or light sleepers. Popular options in bathrooms include honeycomb shades.

Once you have an idea of what’s most important to you in a window treatment you can shop the wide selection at Half Price Drapes. Here you’ll find not only the draperies you need but essential accessories like hardware, pillows, and more! Be sure to look into our free swatch program that allows you to try out fabrics and colors right in your own home.
