Dos and Dont’s When Buying Drapes for Nurseries

January 5, 2016 By hpdadmin Leave a Comment

Buying curtains for a nursery is not quite as simple as buying curtains for other rooms in your home. There are certain things new parents may not think of that can have a big impact on how well their curtains work. Check out these simple dos and don’ts to be sure you’re buying the right curtains from Half Price Drapes.

    Skip floor length drapes

Your baby will be up and running before you know it, and if you have floor-length curtains in their room they’ll be using them for some unique purposes as soon as they can get their hands on them. To avoid your little one climbing, pulling, and wiping their nose on your curtains, stick to short, simple drapes that are hung out of reach.

    Accent your windows

Curtains can decrease the width of your windows by covering much of the glass, even when they’re open. If you’re going to use curtains, consider wide-paneled drapes and then install the hardware away from the window’s edge. This will allow for the curtains to be pulled all the way back and won’t block the view.

Make sure you choose a curtain rod that’s long enough to handle this added width. If your curtain rod stretches too far, it may become unstable and it could collapse.

Add whimsy with a fun pattern

A fun, patterned curtain fabric is a great way to really create an awesome nursery. To make it all work, use your chosen pattern in several parts of your room. Decorators suggested three or four uses for every pattern you use. For example, have your bedding pull from the same colors as your window patterns, and then create an accent pillow for your rocker. Using these colors and patterns throughout the space will add a feeling of cohesiveness.

    Skip the embellishments

You want your curtains to be stylish and serve a purpose, but you don’t want beaded decorations or other embellishments like decorative cording. They can come loose and your curious toddler could easily pull them off. If that happens you have yourself an instant choking hazard. If you want something with a little bit of oomph, consider whimsical prints, interesting textures, or embroidered curtains.

Your nursery will be an exciting addition to your home and Half Price Drapes is here to make it easy for you to find everything you need – at prices you can afford.
