It might be hard to imagine and it may come as a surprise when you first consider it, but according to an article in the News Wheel it’s really happened, and you can make it happen too: Turning Recycled Car Parts Into Home Decor.
Believe it or not, you don’t have to be a professional interior designer to take auto parts and turn them into incredible, personalized home accessories. You may need to do a bit of wiring, some soldering, and you’ll need plenty of imagination, but in the end you can turn almost every part of a car into a piece for your home.
The first option they cover is interior lighting. You may just pop out headlights from your favorite car and use them as spotlights. Just be sure you switch the bulbs for a lower wattage that works better in a home. You could also use brake lights to add soft red hues to a room, or perhaps use suspension coil springs as candlesticks.
What about turning seatbelts into pillow covers? Or pry off the badge or your car and turn it into a hair clip or necklace with just a little hot glue? Or check out online tutorials to turn spark plugs and gears into key chains or jewelry.
Next up is furniture, starting with the most obvious: using a backseat as a couch, or front bucket seats as individual chairs. Some of the more interesting ideas including sawing off and finishing up the bed of a truck to turn it into a bed.
Tires have an almost endless list of uses, like turning them into indoor or outdoor swings, lining flower beds with them, framing mirrors or artwork, turning them into chairs, or using them as frames for end tables.
You don’t have to make major changes to have a big impact. What about using the old-fashioned door handles of yesteryear as a hand towel rack? Or perhaps removing mirrors, whether side or rearview, and adding them around a vanity? What about turning a muffler into a stand for a desk lamp?
