Interior designers and design savvy homeowners alike know that one of the easiest ways you can transform a room is by adding stunning window treatments. Yet they also know it’s not as simple as buying curtains and hanging them. Here are six tips that will help ensure you have the stunning results you’re looking for.
1. Be careful where you hang your curtains
One of the most important things is to hang your curtains as close to the ceiling as possible. This not only increases the dramatic effect of your window treatments, but it can actually make your ceiling look taller.
2. Don’t make assumptions about the size of your windows
First of all, don’t assume that all windows in your home are the same size or that windows that appear to be the same are the same. Get out your measuring tape to be sure. Second, don’t assume that windows that are tall or wide are too tall or wide for window coverings. Half Price Drapes offers affordable custom curtains in virtually any size you can think of.
3. You don’t have to cover every window
If you have a bay window or another large window, don’t assume that the only way to create a stunning window treatment is to cover the whole thing. Instead, consider curtains to frame it. Consider sheer curtains over the entire window and more dramatic velvet curtains for the ends, if you need window coverings for privacy reasons.
4. A high price doesn’t mean high quality
If there’s one thing you can learn from shopping with Half Price Drapes it’s that you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on your window treatments to get high-quality draperies. We do offer 100% silk, incredible faux silk, velvet, and a host of other quality fabrics yet you’ll never spend an arm and a leg with us.
5. Fullness is your friend
One of the easiest mistakes to make is to not get curtains that are full enough. You’re looking for your curtains to measure about two to three times as wide as your actual window to get the right amount of fullness.
6. Stripes can bring many elements together
If the room you’re decorating has a lot of different patterns, styles, or colors then stripes may be the best way to bring them altogether. Remember that you do want to highlight your color scheme but you don’t want everything to match.
