They say that "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb." For most parts of the country, this month is a bit up-in-the-air. One day it could feel like springtime and the next morning you're seeing snow flurries. Although the weather can be unstable this time of year, this doesn't mean you can't get a head start on your spring cleaning. Take a look at some helpful tips to get your home ready for March.
- Bring in flowers: If you just can't wait for April showers to bring May flowers, purchase potted plants in March to bring some life into your home. Purple orchids look great in the home and are especially relevant for 2014.
- Organize your mud room: Chances are that your entry way or mud room is filled with a lot of clutter and dirt this time of year. "Winter mittens, hats, and boots tend to get forgotten in the mudroom, even after the weather warms. Go through every shelf, cubby and drawer, and put away the things you are no longer using," Houzz.com contributor Laura Gaskill suggests. "Clean and polish boots before putting them away, and find your umbrella so it's handy for those spring showers."
- Swap your color palette: The winter is (almost) officially over! To celebrate the start of a new season, swap your dark-hued home decor for lighter shades. For instance, switch out the dark velvet curtains in your dining room for ones that are light and airy. Half Price Drapes' sheer curtains are right on trend this spring. Or, you can even give your living room a fresh coat of paint.
