Painting is a great way to give an old room or some of your old furnishings new life. A new coat of paint on your kitchen cabinets can make all the difference. Bedrooms can often be painted in darker colors (or whatever you kids might want!) while bright colors are often appealing in rooms which receive a large amount of light throughout the day.
Curtains are a great way to change the way your interior looks and feels. Dark drapes can make your den or library cozier and lighter curtains can be used to open up your living or dining room spaces. Metallic or translucent curtains can add class to the room of your home where you most often host guests.
New Shelving Systems
You can use new shelving systems to change the layout of larger rooms, or to reorganize a cluttered one. Heavy standing shelves, like the ones you use to keep vinyl records in, can be used as a wall to separate your room into multiple spaces if you have a loft or similar open area which needs to be a den, dining room, and living room (or whatever other combination you need).
Switching out the wattage of your ceiling lighting or changing your lamps and lamp shades can very much effect the character and feel of your home. Many people live with high wattage light bulbs in all of the rooms of their home, but this may not be the right way to go. Bright lighting before bed, for example, can make it hard for you to fall asleep when you do turn the lights off for bed. For this reason, it is a good idea to have low wattage bulbs in lamps in your bedrooms, to ease your body’s transitioning for sleep. Colored bulbs can be fun but be careful with where and how you use them, and it is often a good idea to have a normal light on at the same time.
