Although the Olympics are in full-force, we can't forget about fashion's big week! The streets of New York City have been filled with glitz and glamour in honor of Fall 2014 fashion week, which showcases the top trends for this autumn. As we've mentioned on this blog, the interior design realm often takes inspiration from the runway. Check out some of the top trends reported so far and learn how to apply them to your home:

  • Animal prints: This fall animal prints will make a big splash in the home design realm. Try exuding the trend through subtle accent pieces.
  • Deep red: Although purple is technically the "it" color of 2014, red is giving it a run for its money. "For now, look for oxblood red to show up in home accents within the next 18-20 months. From gourd lamps to upholstery, to garden stools to table top, expect red to go deeper and moodier," Donna Hoffman, founder of The Interior Design Advocate, says in a statement. To get the look in your own home, opt for crimson or burgundy drapes.
  • Lace: This year lace will be quite popular in both apparel and window fashions. However, 2014's trend will be a bit more edgy than we're used to. Traditionally lace exudes femininity and elegance. Nowadays, we are seeing lace created in darker hues to give your design scheme an edge.
