As you know, today's top interior design trends often emulate the looks of the red carpet. Last night, the 2014 award season officially kicked off with the People's Choice Awards. Fan favorites showed up dressed to the nines in garments by top-name designers. Take a look at some of the popular trends and learn how to apply them to your home:
- All white: White is classic and timeless, both in the fashion world and interior design sector. Jessica Alba and Jennifer Hudson both pulled off these looks last night. Hudson made her dress pop with bright pink lips. To accentuate your white backdrop, look for bright colored accessories in shades like magenta or Radiant Orchid.
- Embellishments: "Though I am normally a firm believer that the more sparkles a dress has, the more likely it is to look like a tacky disco ball rather than a piece of couture, Nina Dobrev dazzled," reports a blogger for lifestyle website Stuff.co.nz. "The silver, ankle-strap sandals only add to the shine factor, but her messy up 'do and simple smoky eye gives the look a much-needed touch of rock and roll. Beautiful." Take a cue from the Vampire Diaries star when decorating your interior space. Metallic home accessories can look glamorous when done successfully. You can even make black curtains or drapes pop with a decorative curtain rod.
- Florals: Some stars, like Melissa Joan Hart, opted to take a risk when dressing in floral gowns. Although we applaud these divas for taking a fashion risk and experimenting with patterns, the key to pulling off this trend, both in the home sector and runway, is to choose a subtle fabric.
