Whether you live in Kentucky or not, having a Kentucky Derby Party is a great way to catch up with old friends and have fun this weekend. If you're interested in throwing a last-minute bash in your home, be sure to take a look at some tips below that will definitely earn you the Triple Crown in hosting!

  • Décor: "Roll out a red carpet and use a silk tablecloth to represent the jockey's racing jerseys – the more colorful, the better," writes a blogger for Better Homes & Gardens. "Place a trophy cup on the table as a centerpiece. Fill the cup with rose petals, or scatter them around the center of the table, in honor of the roses draped over the winning horse."
  • Food and Drink: No party is complete without tasty food and drinks. As you may know, mint juleps are the signature beverages served at the Kentucky Derby. These drinks, although traditionally made with bourbon, are actually made with Early Times, a brand of Kentucky whiskey. For the main course, you can always serve your chicken fried, or opt for a fancier meal of chicken, biscuits and gravy – a southern staple. Red velvet cupcakes also fit the theme. Try embellishing them with rose-shaped sugar decals.
