If you’re seriously considering making major changes to your home then you’ll need a team of pros to help you. But who exactly should you hire? At Half Price Drapes, we work with clients who are simply changing up their bedding and curtains, clients who are building a home from the ground up, and everyone in between. Read on to learn more about some of the people who may get involved in a home remodeling project.
You may only need a handyperson
In many cases, hiring a handyperson is enough. If you’re going to be installing curtains and want a little help, they can be a huge asset. If you want to get a faucet fixed, or hang a TV, clean your gutters, hang pictures, or other odd jobs around the space, they can take care of it for you.
You may need a specialty tradesperson
In the event that you’re going to have specialty work done, you should hire an expert. This includes things like painting, plumbing, and electrician work. There are pros out there, so why not work with the pros? It’s true that just about anyone can paint a wall, but you need more than that.
The pros will caulk holes, patch any cracks, and then sand to fully cover the imperfections. The pros know how many coats are needed and can ensure you’re using a quality paint. Finally, the more experienced a specialty tradesperson is, the more quickly and efficiently they can get the job done.
Don’t put a specialty tradesperson in charge of your remodel
If your job is large then you may need a general contractor. Whatever you do, don’t allow a specialty tradesperson to take on the role of contractor for one simple reason: They are not a contractor. For example, a carpenter you hire for carpentry work likely has years of experience in many aspects of a remodel. That doesn’t mean they are ready to be a contractor and they should not be put into that position.
If you’re moving a wall then you should have an architect
If your remodeling project involves moving your kitchen counter, tearing down a wall, or other significant changes to your home, then an architect is called for. They know how to move walls within a room and how to take down and put it together in a way that’s safe.
